Chains of perception
Chains of perception
64 x 51 inch
Oil on canvas

Chained by the neck and their limbs
to the walls of this cave
-as Plato describes them-
they communicate through gestures in a primitive language
that they themselves do not understand well,
immersed as they are in the fiercest ignorance.

We live in darkness,
the lights of consciousness long smothered,
barely a glimmer of its memory remains,
sleepwalkers without knowing it we are, half dead indeed,
chained by our minds to normality.
